Defence Minister launches Shyok Tunnel, 124 projects for border infrastructure in Ladakh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated 125 strategic infrastructure projects of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), including the Shyok Tunnel in eastern Ladakh, which is crucial for all-weather connectivity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. This 920-metre tunnel will enhance troop mobility and logistical support in challenging terrains, particularly during harsh winters. Alongside the Shyok Tunnel, 32 other projects were launched in Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at improving operational preparedness for forces along the India-China border. The total investment for these projects is approximately Rs 5,000 crore, which includes roads, bridges, and a helipad. The Defence Minister emphasized that robust infrastructure is essential for national security and fosters development in border areas, thus strengthening the ties between remote locations and the national mainstream. He highlighted the importance of coordination among the Armed Forces, civil administration, and local communities, reinforcing India’s commitment to fortifying its border infrastructure in the face of geopolitical challenges.
