Geopolitics and Security Alliances

India condemns Pakistan's actions, supports Afghan sovereignty amid border tensions.

India has condemned recent attacks by Pakistan on Afghanistan, which resulted in civilian casualties, amidst escalating tensions between the two nations. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed deep concern over the violence and reaffirmed India’s commitment to Afghanistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The clashes, which reignited following a ceasefire pact less than two months ago, were marked by accusations from Taliban officials that Pakistan initiated the strikes, prompting a military response from Afghan forces. Local reports indicated that Pakistani air operations targeted civilian infrastructure in the Spin Boldak district, leading to at least five civilian deaths and injuries. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts from various nations, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, to mediate a ceasefire, the situation remains volatile, complicating regional stability and raising alarms over the humanitarian impact of the conflict. India’s firm stance underscores its interest in supporting Afghan sovereignty and highlights the broader implications for security in South Asia amidst recurring hostilities at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
