Bangladesh delegation to join Kolkata's Vijay Diwas celebrations, honoring shared history and sacrifices.

A 20-member Bangladesh delegation, including eight Muktijodhas, two serving Bangladesh Army officers, and family members, will arrive in Kolkata on December 14 to join Vijay Diwas celebrations on December 15-16, marking the Indian Armed Forces’ victory in the 1971 Liberation War that birthed Bangladesh through Pakistan’s surrender on December 16. The group will participate in a military tattoo on December 15 and a wreath-laying ceremony at Vijay Smarak, Vijay Durg (formerly Fort William), led by West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. This second post-Sheikh Hasina visit—following her August 2024 ouster and refuge in India—signals thawing ties amid Bangladesh’s interim Yunus-led government, reinforcing India’s strategic eastern flank security, shared anti-Pakistan history, and defence cooperation against regional extremism.
