Tejas Mk-2 Enters Prototyping Phase, First Flight by 2027
India’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-2 has progressed to the prototyping phase, with the first flight targeted for late 2026 or early 2027, according to HAL CMD Dr. DK Sunil. This advanced 4.5-generation fighter features significant enhancements, including a GE F414 engine and advanced avionics like AESA radar and an indigenous IRST system. The Mk-2 aims to bolster the Indian Air Force’s capabilities against regional threats and incorporates over 70% indigenous content, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The development signifies a crucial step towards achieving strategic autonomy in India’s defense sector, positioning the Mk-2 as a competitive option against global counterparts.
