Lt Col C Dwarakesh, India's first blind officer, receives national honor for resilience.

Lieutenant Colonel C. Dwarakesh has made history as India’s first blind active-duty army officer, recently awarded the National Award for Persons with Disabilities, 2025, for his remarkable resilience and contributions to the armed forces. Despite losing his eyesight in a 2014 accident, Dwarakesh has excelled in both military duties and para-sports, becoming a national champion in swimming and shooting, and currently ranks world no. 3 in the 10m Air Rifle event. His achievements not only highlight the potential for inclusivity within the Indian Armed Forces but also serve as an inspiration for individuals facing disabilities, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and technological assistance in overcoming personal adversity.
