Stefan Priesner appointed as UN Resident Coordinator in India.
Stefan Priesner of Austria assumed the role of United Nations Resident Coordinator in India on December 1, 2025, succeeding Shombi Sharp after a four-year tenure. Priesner brings extensive experience in South Asia and international development, having previously served as Resident Coordinator in Iran, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Bangladesh, with a strong focus on promoting sustainable development programs in India. Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Ganesh Kumar Shrestha of Nepal was appointed on December 2, 2025, as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), replacing Major General Robert Yaw Affram of Ghana. Shrestha has 36 years of military service, including leadership in the Nepalese Army and UN peacekeeping experience in South Sudan. These appointments mark significant UN leadership changes aimed at reinforcing development cooperation in India and maintaining stability in the sensitive Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan, highlighting ongoing international commitments to geopolitical stability and development in critical regions.
