Lankan President thanks PM Modi for India's swift cyclone relief efforts.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India’s swift and substantial relief efforts following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah. On November 25-26, 2025, the cyclone severely impacted Sri Lanka, causing over 355 deaths and widespread destruction. Under Operation Sagar Bandhu, launched on November 28, India dispatched 53 tonnes of relief material including food, medical supplies, tents, and rescue teams equipped with specialized equipment. The Indian Air Force and Navy actively participated in search, rescue, and evacuation, assisting over 2,000 stranded Indians. PM Modi personally conveyed condolences to President Dissanayake on November 30 and assured continued support during the rehabilitation phase. India’s rapid response underlines its Neighbourhood First policy and strengthens strategic ties with Sri Lanka, reinforcing India’s role as the region’s reliable first responder amid complex geopolitical challenges. Both leaders have agreed to maintain close coordination as Sri Lanka rebuilds.
