BJP accuses Congress and Rahul Gandhi of supporting Maoist insurgents.

On November 29, 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) publicly accused the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi of fostering a nexus with Maoist insurgents, posing a threat to India’s national sovereignty. The BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi has been fueling sympathies for Maoists, including by sharing videos featuring supporters of the slain Maoist commander Madvi Hidma during protests in Delhi. The BJP accused Congress of tolerating “urban Naxals” and promoting “Naxalite apologists” within its leadership, linking this to a long history of policy paralysis during the Congress-led UPA government that allowed the insurgency to grow. The BJP highlighted the decline in Maoist influence under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government while criticizing Congress for what it called a dangerous flirtation with Naxalite terrorism. This issue has intensified political tensions as the BJP pushes its agenda to eradicate Maoist extremism by March 2026, emphasizing a strong security stance against the insurgency. Congress has yet to issue an official response to these charges.
