India to Modernize Su-30MKI Fleet During Modi-Putin Summit.

India is set to initiate a significant modernization effort for its Su-30MKI fleet, valued at ₹63,000 crore, during the upcoming Modi-Putin summit. This program aims to extend the aircraft’s lifespan by up to 30 years through indigenous advancements, including the cutting-edge ‘Virupaksha’ AESA radar and a comprehensive electronic warfare suite, with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited targeting 78% local content. The upgrades will enhance the Indian Air Force’s capabilities amid regional threats from China and Pakistan, especially as squadron strength has dipped below 30 due to MiG-21 retirements. Concurrently, India is balancing global defense ties, securing substantial contracts with both the U.S. and Russia, reinforcing its multi-alignment strategy while promoting self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
