India's shipbuilding industry can lead global maritime partnerships and enhance security, says Defence Minister.
At the recent Samudra Utkarsh Seminar 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized India’s readiness to shape the maritime century by fostering international partnerships and co-developing next-generation maritime capabilities through its robust shipbuilding industry. He highlighted that every ship currently under construction for the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard is being manufactured in Indian shipyards, reflecting the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and significant advancements in indigenous capabilities. The seminar showcased India’s shipbuilding prowess, with a focus on high-end projects like the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and advancements in digital shipyard technologies, which align with global benchmarks. Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth reiterated the multiplier effect of the shipbuilding sector on the economy, urging continuous innovation and collaboration to position India as a leading shipbuilding nation. This development signals India’s commitment to becoming a global hub for maritime innovation while enhancing regional security and economic resilience.
