14 Indian Firms Compete for DRDO's LFRJ Engine Development Program
On November 22, 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking a Development-cum-Production Partner (DcPP) for its Liquid Fuel Ramjet (LFRJ) engine program, a critical propulsion technology for India’s next-generation supersonic cruise missiles. This move aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, promoting self-reliance in defence technology by involving Indian firms. Fourteen Indian companies, including Tata Advanced Systems, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Dynamics, and Godrej & Boyce, were shortlisted for this key collaboration, spanning both public and private sectors. The selected partner will co-develop and mass-produce the engine, which aims to replace imported components and fuel used in missiles like BrahMos, thereby boosting India’s strategic autonomy and export potential. The initiative demonstrates DRDO’s commitment to advancing indigenous weapon systems to strengthen India’s defence and technological edge.
