Israeli army chief takes disciplinary action after October 7 attack failures.

Israel’s military chief, Eyal Zamir, has dismissed several senior commanders and reprimanded others for their failures during the October 7 attack by Hamas, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and significant hostage-taking. In a statement acknowledging a “severe, resounding, systemic failure,” Zamir emphasized the need for accountability and lessons learned to guide the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) moving forward. The disciplinary actions come amid rising public pressure for a national inquiry into the events surrounding the attack, as protests erupt demanding accountability from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. The conflict has escalated into a major military campaign in Gaza, leading to devastating casualties and destruction in the enclave.
