At the United Nations, Indian Ambassador P. Harish highlighted the Indian Navy’s significant contributions to maritime safety, reporting the successful rescue of over 520 lives and the escorting of 367 merchant vessels carrying cargo worth $6.3 billion in the Western Arabian Sea. The Navy’s decisive actions against piracy, including the liberation of the MV Ruen from Somali pirates and rescue operations following missile strikes, earned international commendations. Harish advocated for global recognition of India’s Information Fusion Centre in the Indian Ocean Region, emphasizing India’s commitment to maritime labor protections and gender-sensitive initiatives. This underscores India’s role as a leading maritime nation and its dedication to enhancing maritime security while promoting seafarer welfare.
