Modi and Albanese discuss strengthening defense and energy ties at G20.

At the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg on November 21, 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to strengthen defense, energy, and economic ties under the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which completed five years in 2025. The leaders focused on expanding cooperation in defense and security, nuclear energy, trade, and critical minerals, emphasizing the role of frequent high-level engagements in deepening bilateral relations. Albanese expressed solidarity with India following recent terror attacks and both leaders committed to intensifying joint efforts in combating terrorism globally. In addition, they announced a new trilateral technology and innovation partnership with Canada, targeting emerging technologies and clean energy. This collaboration highlights the strategic importance of India-Australia relations in the Indo-Pacific region, reinforcing shared priorities amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
