CISF designated as primary security force for India's 250 seaports.
The Indian government has officially designated the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) as the main security organization for approximately 250 seaports, enhancing security measures in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code. This significant reform, announced on November 18, aims to address vulnerabilities identified in various high-level security meetings, establishing CISF as the Recognised Security Organisation responsible for core security functions such as counter-terrorism and anti-sabotage operations. The initiative, expected to require around 80,000 personnel, will also introduce a hybrid security model that combines CISF and private security forces, thereby ensuring that India’s ports are future-ready and capable of supporting the country’s economic growth and maritime ambitions.
