CVRDE partners with Indian industry for Arjun tank engine spares after MTU's exit.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) has successfully collaborated with Indian industry leaders to produce spare parts for the Arjun tank engines after MTU Friedrichshafen halted component production due to commercial non-viability. This initiative enables the refurbishment of over 150 Arjun MK-1A tanks without reliance on foreign kits, enhancing operational readiness and supporting the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” policy aimed at achieving self-reliance in defense technologies. The project, valued at approximately 1,200 crore, underscores India’s growing capability in complex defense manufacturing and positions the nation to mitigate vulnerabilities from external supply disruptions while ensuring the long-term lifecycle management of its armored fleet.
