Safran-GTRE to use AMCA prototype for rapid 120kN engine trials, advancing 5th-gen fighter readiness.
In a strategic partnership, Safran S.A. and India’s Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) are set to co-develop a high-power, 120-kN engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) MkII program, aiming for operational readiness within 10 to 12 years. The collaboration, valued at approximately $7 billion, ensures India retains full Intellectual Property Rights over advanced turbofan technology, enhancing self-reliance in aerospace. Notably, an existing AMCA prototype will serve as a Flying Test Bed, expediting flight validation and certification timelines. With advanced features designed for improved efficiency and supercruise capabilities, this initiative not only bolsters India’s defense aviation sector but also positions the AMCA MkII as a competitive fifth-generation fighter in global markets.
