India and Germany sign pivotal defense agreement for LiDAR helicopter systems.

India and Germany have established a landmark defense pact focusing on the joint manufacture of LiDAR-based Obstacle Avoidance Systems (OAS) for military helicopters, marking a significant technology transfer between the two nations. This agreement, reached during the India-Germany High Defence Committee meeting, represents the most substantial collaboration in defense technology in nearly three decades, with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) partnering with Germany’s HENSOLDT. The OAS will enhance helicopter operational safety by enabling pilots to detect potential obstacles during low-level flights, thereby reducing accident risks. This collaboration not only strengthens bilateral ties but also underscores India’s commitment to advancing indigenous defense capabilities through international partnerships.
