Indian Army seeks bids for boats to enhance operations in border areas.

The Indian Army has progressed in its procurement efforts for strategic maritime capabilities by inviting commercial bids for eight Landing Craft Assaults and six fast patrol boats, aimed at bolstering operations in Sir Creek, the Brahmaputra river basin, and eastern Ladakh. The RFPs emphasize a minimum 60% indigenous content and outline specifications such as high-speed capabilities and troop accommodation. This initiative underscores the Army’s focus on enhancing operational readiness in critical border areas, particularly in light of heightened tensions with Pakistan. The Sir Creek region, rich in untapped resources and central to a long-standing border dispute, remains a strategic priority for India’s defense establishment, reinforcing the need for robust maritime and amphibious operational capabilities.
