NIST students develop 5G drone to enhance Indian Army capabilities.
Students from NIST University, Berhampur, have developed a pioneering 5G-enabled drone designed to enhance the Indian Army’s surveillance and logistics capabilities, particularly in challenging environments like Siachen and the Line of Control. This advanced drone can transmit high-speed video, carry up to 5 kg, and operate at 2,000 meters for 45 minutes, acting as a flying network hub for other drones. The project, which involved collaboration with the Army Air Defence College, underscores a significant step towards boosting indigenous drone technology for defense applications, with a focus on secure communication networks. Such innovations are poised to significantly improve reconnaissance and supply operations in remote border areas, reflecting India’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities through homegrown technological advancements.
