India Activates Strategic Nyoma Airbase Near China Border, Boosting Military Readiness

India has operationalised the strategically significant Mudh-Nyoma airbase in Ladakh, located just 25 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, enhancing its military capabilities in the region. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh inaugurated the airbase by landing a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, marking a significant milestone in India’s military readiness amidst ongoing tensions with China. The airbase, which underwent an upgrade worth Rs 230 crore, now features a 2.7-km rigid runway capable of supporting operations by fighter jets and heavy-lift transport planes. This development coincides with the ‘Poorvi Prachand Prahar’ military exercise in Arunachal Pradesh, underscoring India’s commitment to maintaining high operational readiness along its 3,488-km frontier with China. As both nations continue to enhance their military infrastructure, the Nyoma airbase is expected to facilitate rapid troop deployment and logistics, thereby strengthening India’s strategic posture in the region.
