Army to install wind turbines at 20 border locations for energy.

The Indian Army plans to install wind turbines at 20 strategic border locations in Himachal Pradesh, aiming to generate 68,000 to 80,000 kWh annually—enough to electrify 120 to 160 remote households. This initiative reflects a push for sustainable energy in border areas, with full support from the state government under CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Alongside, border tourism has surged over threefold, rising from 21,000 visitors in 2024 to over 70,000 in 2025, boosting local economies and civilian-military cooperation. Efforts are also underway to resume border trade with China through Shipki-La, Lipulekh, and Nathu-La passes, following diplomatic talks and state interventions, enhancing economic connectivity. The development of a strategic airport at Rangrik is being expedited to further improve tourism and regional connectivity. The Army-HPU partnership on R&D bolsters sustainable and security-oriented growth in border areas. These milestones reinforce India’s proactive border management and resilience strategy.
