The Netherlands has commenced construction of its first C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, developed by Embraer, as part of a modernization effort to replace its aging C-130H Hercules fleet. This joint procurement with Austria aims to enhance strategic and tactical airlift capabilities, with five aircraft ordered by the Netherlands and four by Austria, set for delivery starting in late 2027. The C-390, with a payload capacity of 26 tons and a cruising speed of 470 knots, will support diverse missions including humanitarian aid and medical evacuation. This initiative reflects the Netherlands’ commitment to strengthening its defense preparedness and fostering European defense cooperation amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
