Assam's new military station enhances border security and intelligence capabilities.

The Indian Army has laid the foundation for the Lachit Borphukan Military Station in Assam’s Dhubri district, aimed at enhancing border security and intelligence in response to rising cross-border crimes and activities by extremist groups. Situated just 40 km from the Bangladesh border, this facility will house 1,200-1,500 personnel and improve operational capabilities, addressing concerns regarding the Bangladesh caretaker government’s stance against India. Experts highlight the significance of the station in bolstering the Army’s intelligence capabilities, particularly against smuggling and illegal migration, while Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma supports its establishment to reinforce security in the sensitive region, underscoring the importance of the Siliguri corridor in national defense strategy.
