CDS Anil Chauhan: Modern Warfare Demands Technology for Victory
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan recently emphasized the evolving nature of warfare, asserting that in any conflict, there are “no runners-up,” highlighting that victory is the sole objective. Speaking at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, he noted that while historical strategies heavily relied on geographical advantages, modern technology has become a decisive factor in military outcomes. General Chauhan elaborated on the integration of artificial intelligence and automation, predicting that future conflicts may increasingly occur between machines, with human decision-making augmented by AI for rapid responses. He also addressed the complexities of urban warfare, identifying it as a challenging battlefield due to its irregular terrain and civilian presence. These remarks underscore India’s commitment to adapting its defense strategies in response to technological advancements and contemporary security challenges, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions with neighboring nations.
