Philippines enhances coastal defense with first BrahMos missile battery deployment.

On November 7, 2025, the Philippine Marine Corps deployed its first operational BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missile battery in Zambales, enhancing Manila’s coastal defense capabilities amid growing maritime threats in the South China Sea. This deployment, part of a $375 million deal with India, includes advanced mobile launchers and command vehicles, enabling strikes up to 290 kilometers. The strategic positioning of the battery provides direct coverage over contested sea lanes, serving as a credible deterrent against Chinese naval activities. This move underscores the Philippines’ defense modernization efforts and its strategic alignment with allies such as India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, highlighting India’s expanding role as a key defense partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
