Maldives to enhance defense with military aircraft and new air station.

The Maldives has announced plans to acquire a military aircraft next year alongside the inauguration of its first dedicated air station, the Gan Air Station, aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Air Corps. President Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the importance of this development for national security, enhancing airspace surveillance over the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and enabling continuous operational capabilities. The government has also increased military spending, with notable contracts for advanced military drones from Turkey. This strategic advancement reflects the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening maritime security and operational readiness in a region marked by growing geopolitical dynamics, underscoring the importance of defense modernization amidst evolving security challenges.
