Italian Army modernizes armored fleet through Leonardo-Rheinmetall partnership.

On November 5, 2025, the Italian Army awarded a significant contract to the Leonardo-Rheinmetall Military Vehicles joint venture for the supply of 21 A2CS tracked armored combat vehicles, marking a crucial phase in Italy’s fleet modernization strategy. This order includes advanced configurations with indigenous capabilities, emphasizing the importance of local industry involvement, as nearly 60% of systems will be integrated and delivered domestically. The initiative supports a broader goal of acquiring 1,050 advanced armored vehicles and underscores the strategic relevance of European defense collaboration. For India, this development highlights the potential for similar joint ventures and technology transfers in armored systems, reinforcing the importance of international partnerships to enhance defense capabilities and maintain strategic autonomy in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
