DRDO to Focus on 8 Key Tech Areas for Enhanced Defense Capability

The DRDO has received a budget of ₹23,855.61 crore for 2024-25, focusing on eight niche technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technology to enhance India’s defense capabilities and self-reliance. By integrating private sector involvement through initiatives like the Technology Development Fund and Development-Cum-Production Partner model, DRDO aims to harness industry expertise while retaining high-risk projects internally. The emphasis on collaboration with MSMEs and academia is expected to drive innovation in critical defense domains, preparing India to effectively counter emerging threats and maintain technological superiority in a rapidly evolving security landscape. This strategic approach aligns with the need for flexibility and proactive adaptation in defense research and development.
