Indian firms licensed to import rare earth magnets from China.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced that several Indian companies, including Continental India, Hitachi, and Jay Ushin, have received licenses to import rare earth magnets from China, following the imposition of stringent export controls by Beijing. This initial approval is aimed at alleviating supply chain disruptions affecting India’s automotive and electronics sectors, particularly in the electric vehicle market. The licenses come with conditions prohibiting re-export to the United States and use in defense-related applications. This development aligns with ongoing discussions between India and China to secure rare earth material supplies, underlining India’s strategic focus on enhancing self-reliance in critical industries amidst global supply chain challenges.
