Armenia close to acquiring Indian Su-30MKI fighters amid regional tensions.

Armenia is on the verge of finalizing a significant deal to procure Indian-built Su-30MKI fighters, valued between $2.5 to $3 billion, amidst rising regional tensions with Azerbaijan. This agreement, which includes advanced training, ground support, and weapons integration, marks a pivotal shift in Armenia’s defense strategy, diversifying away from its traditional reliance on Russian military hardware. The introduction of these aircraft, equipped with indigenous Indian systems, is expected to enhance Armenia’s deterrence capabilities significantly. For India, this deal not only reinforces its position as a reliable defense partner but also contributes to regional stability by countering Azerbaijan’s military enhancements, thereby shaping a new era in Eurasian defense relations.
