Navy Chief advocates unified maritime strategy for Indo-Pacific challenges.
Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, during the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD), emphasized the necessity for a unified maritime strategy to address the complexities of the Indo-Pacific region. He introduced the theme of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), building on India’s previous maritime vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region). Admiral Tripathi highlighted the “dynaxity” of the maritime environment, characterized by commercial disruptions, transnational turbulence, and technological acceleration, and called for a collaborative approach to maritime security that transcends traditional threat containment. He noted the critical role of the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), which aims to expand its capacity from 15 to 50 international liaison officers by 2028, fostering international partnerships to enhance maritime awareness and response capabilities. The discussions underscored that maritime security is increasingly vital in a world marked by fluid geopolitical alignments and emerging challenges, making India’s commitment to a secure and inclusive maritime order essential for regional stability and cooperation. This proactive stance reflects India’s growing role in shaping maritime dynamics and enhancing collective security in the Indo-Pacific region.
