Assam Rifles seize significant arms cache in Mizoram, enhancing border security.
In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition in the Champhai District of Mizoram, a region known for its challenges related to smuggling. Acting on specific intelligence, the troops conducted a well-coordinated search in the Saikhumpai area, uncovering six 60mm mortar tubes, two Myanmar-made 7.62mm assault rifles, various shotguns, and live ammunition, including mortars and anti-personnel mines. The operation underscores the Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating illegal arms networks and enhancing security along the 1,643-km India-Myanmar border, which is a critical transit zone for drugs and contraband. Following the recovery, no signs of underground movement were detected, and the weapons were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further investigation. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Indian security forces to maintain peace in the northeastern states, particularly in border areas that face the dual threats of arms smuggling and drug trafficking. The proactive measures taken by the Assam Rifles serve to reinforce India’s resolve to tackle cross-border illegal activities that threaten national security and regional stability.
