HAL nearing TEJAS MK-1 completion while tackling MK-1A production delays.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is nearing the completion of TEJAS MK-1 deliveries while addressing delays in the production of the more advanced TEJAS MK-1A variant. Engine supply issues, primarily due to delays from General Electric, have hindered the MK-1A’s induction, though HAL has assembled ten airframes and aims to deliver the first two by October 2025, provided weapon trials are successful. The Cabinet Committee on Security recently approved the procurement of an additional 97 MK-1A aircraft, with an ambitious production target of 83 jets by 2029. This development is crucial for the Indian Air Force as it transitions from its aging MiG-21 fleet, enhancing its operational readiness amidst regional security challenges while showcasing India’s commitment to indigenous defense capabilities.
