Terrorism and Counterterrorism

India nearing eradication of Maoist terrorism, says PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi that India is on the verge of eradicating Maoist terrorism, promising a future free from this threat. He emphasized the significant decline in Maoist influence, with only 11 out of 125 previously affected districts still facing challenges, and a notable surrender of 303 Naxalites, including high-value figures. Modi criticized past governance failures for neglecting rural development and infrastructure, while highlighting transformative initiatives in regions like Bastar. This optimistic outlook reflects the government’s commitment to restoring peace and prosperity, aiming for a Diwali celebration untainted by fear, underscoring the importance of democratic values and development in countering extremism in India.
