Kaveri Engine Certification Nears, Boosting Ghatak UCAV Program
India is set to enhance its aerospace capabilities with the Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE) nearing certification by 2026 to power the Ghatak UCAV program, projected to procure 150 units by 2033. GTRE will outsource full engine assembly through competitive bidding, promoting private sector involvement and technology transfer, crucial for achieving self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Major players like Godrej Aerospace and L&T are expected to participate, ensuring local production of 160-170 engines. The Ghatak UCAV, featuring advanced stealth and AI capabilities, will play a pivotal role in deep-strike missions and ISR, underlining India’s strategic shift towards indigenous defense production.
