GRSE begins construction of advanced acoustic research ship for DRDO.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) laid the keel for an advanced Acoustic Research Ship (ARS) in Kolkata, intended for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and its Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL). The 93-meter vessel, equipped with cutting-edge research technology, will enhance capabilities in underwater acoustic research, including deployment and retrieval of equipment, meteorological surveys, and real-time data collection. With a speed range of 4 to 12 knots and a substantial operational endurance, the ARS is set to significantly advance India’s maritime research capabilities. This development underscores India’s commitment to strengthening its defense research infrastructure while enhancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, marking another milestone in GRSE’s contribution to the nation’s strategic maritime interests.
