In a significant advancement for India’s defense capabilities, two government panels will assess seven contenders for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, crucial for developing the nation’s fifth-generation stealth fighter. The evaluation, led by senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials and culminating in a review by the defence secretary, focuses on technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities, with an emphasis on enhancing domestic industry per the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. With a budget of ₹15,000 crore for the initial 126 jets, this initiative not only aims to bolster India’s air dominance but also positions the country among the elite stealth aircraft producers globally.
