India's AMCA program evaluates seven contenders for stealth fighter development.

In a significant advancement for India’s defense capabilities, two government panels will assess seven contenders for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, crucial for developing the nation’s fifth-generation stealth fighter. The evaluation, led by senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials and culminating in a review by the defence secretary, focuses on technical expertise and manufacturing capabilities, with an emphasis on enhancing domestic industry per the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. With a budget of ₹15,000 crore for the initial 126 jets, this initiative not only aims to bolster India’s air dominance but also positions the country among the elite stealth aircraft producers globally. The competitive landscape includes established players like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and innovative private firms, reflecting a growing domestic defense ecosystem.
