Qantas confirms hackers released customer data after July breach.

Qantas Airways has confirmed that cybercriminals have released customer data following a database breach in July, which involved over one million customers having sensitive information accessed, including phone numbers and birth dates. This incident marks one of Australia’s most significant cyberattacks, leading to heightened discussions on mandatory cyber resilience laws. The hacker group Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters is believed to be responsible for the release after a ransom deadline was missed. Qantas is currently cooperating with cybersecurity experts to assess the released data while seeking an injunction to prevent further sharing or publication of the stolen information. This breach underscores the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in both the corporate sector and national infrastructure to protect against evolving cyber threats.
