Indian Navy and L&T Accelerate Submarine Development Using SOV-500 Design.
In a significant advancement for the Indian Navy, the Warship Design Bureau has partnered with Larsen & Toubro to expedite the development of the Project-76 advanced conventional submarine program, reducing the timeline from 7-10 years to just four. This initiative, grounded in the internationally certified SOV-500 design, aims to produce six next-generation diesel-electric submarines featuring air-independent propulsion and enhanced stealth capabilities. The collaboration addresses the Navy’s manpower constraints while ensuring alignment with indigenous requirements under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The rapid development of these submarines is critical for strengthening India’s maritime security and enhancing its strategic deterrence in the region amidst rising tensions.
