The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has initiated a project under its Technology Development Fund (TDF) program to create indigenous platinum-rhodium catalytic ignitors for fighter aircraft afterburners, marking a significant step towards self-reliance in aerospace technology. This initiative aims to reduce India’s dependence on costly imported components and enhance the performance and safety of the Indian Air Force’s fleet, including the Su-30MKI and Rafale jets. By fostering collaboration with private sector players, the project seeks to address critical supply chain vulnerabilities while ensuring compliance with international aerospace standards.
