Indian and Australian Defence Ministers meet to bolster bilateral cooperation and security partnerships.
On October 9, 2025, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles held a significant bilateral meeting in Canberra, marking five years of the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defence cooperation across various domains, including military exercises, maritime security, and defence industry collaboration, culminating in the signing of three key agreements: an Agreement on Information Sharing, an MoU on Submarine Search and Rescue Cooperation, and Terms of Reference for Joint Staff Talks. Singh emphasized India’s stance against terrorism, stating that “Terror & Talks cannot go together,” while Marles highlighted the unprecedented progress in bilateral defence discussions, including a Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap and plans for increased operational ties. The meeting not only deepened strategic alignment but also showcased a live air-to-air refuelling demonstration, reflecting growing interoperability.
