GRSE to Deliver Six More ASW Crafts Following INS Androth Commissioning

The Indian Navy has commissioned the INS Androth, the second in a series of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWCs), during a ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. This state-of-the-art vessel, designed for coastal and shallow water operations, features advanced weapons, sensors, and communication systems, boasting over 80% indigenous content, thus exemplifying India’s commitment to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the Make in India vision. With a length of 77 meters and a displacement of approximately 1,500 tonnes, INS Androth is agile and maneuverable, powered by three waterjet propulsion systems, enabling it to conduct maritime surveillance, search and rescue missions, and counter threats in littoral areas. The commissioning of this ship underscores the Indian Navy’s resolve to enhance its Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities, serving as a strategic asset in safeguarding national maritime interests and reinforcing regional security. The delivery of the INS Androth and the ongoing construction of additional ASW SWCs by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) highlight the significant advancements in India’s indigenous defense capabilities, promoting both technological innovation and self-reliance within the defense sector.
