IAF to Integrate Meteor Missile on Su-30MKI, Enhancing BVR Capabilities.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is advancing its beyond-visual-range (BVR) air combat capabilities by integrating the Meteor missile across its fleet, including Russian-origin aircraft, contingent on compatibility with indigenous radar systems. This initiative, backed by European manufacturer MBDA, addresses interoperability challenges, enhancing the IAF’s operational flexibility with a dual integration of the indigenous Astra series and Meteor. The modernization, particularly of the Su-30MKI fleet, aims to transition from the R-77 missile to a layered BVR strategy, bolstered by the upcoming indigenously developed GaN-based AESA radars. This effort underscores India’s commitment to technological sovereignty and self-reliance in defense, aligning with broader geopolitical strategies while reducing dependence on foreign munitions.
