75% of Su-30MKI Fleet to Receive Super Sukhoi Upgrade Soon
In a significant advancement for India’s aerial capabilities, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh announced that approximately 75% of the Su-30MKI fleet will undergo the Super Sukhoi upgrade program, enhancing around 200-204 aircraft over the next decade. This modernization effort, with an estimated budget of ₹60,000-70,000 crore, aims to integrate advanced technologies, including DRDO’s Uttam GaN-based AESA radars and next-generation weapons, thereby extending the operational lifespan of these fighters into the 2050s. Singh emphasized the strategic importance of this upgrade amidst growing regional threats, particularly from China’s expanding military capabilities. This initiative underscores India’s commitment to bolstering its defense readiness and indigenization efforts, reflecting a proactive stance in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
