Major Firms Bid for NPCIL's Bharat Small Reactors; Deadline Extended
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has garnered significant interest from major private players, including Reliance, Adani, Tata, and JSPL, for its Bharat Small Reactor (BSR) project, leading to an extension of the bid deadline to March 2026. This initiative marks a strategic shift in India’s nuclear energy landscape, allowing private financing while NPCIL retains operational control. With 16 potential sites across six states identified, this collaboration aims to enhance India’s nuclear capacity towards a target of 100 GW by 2047. The move not only aims to bolster clean energy production but also signifies a critical transition in regulatory frameworks to accommodate private sector engagement, potentially transforming India’s approach to nuclear power generation.
