India and Bhutan to establish two cross-border rail links.

India has announced a joint initiative with Bhutan to establish two cross-border rail links connecting Banarhat in West Bengal to Samtse and Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu, with an investment exceeding Rs 4,000 crore. This project, unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, aims to bolster trade and enhance connectivity, as India is Bhutan’s largest trading partner. Improved rail infrastructure is expected to facilitate cargo and passenger movement, significantly contributing to Bhutan’s economic growth and integration into global supply chains. This development underscores the strategic partnership between India and Bhutan, further solidifying regional ties and promoting mutual prosperity through enhanced transportation networks.
