Ladakh Activist Sonam Wangchuk Under Investigation for Pakistan Links

Ladakh Police Chief S. D. Singh Jamwal announced that statehood activist Sonam Wangchuk is under investigation for alleged links to Pakistan, following the arrest of a Pakistani intelligence operative who reported on his protests. Detained under the National Security Act and sent to Jodhpur, Wangchuk is accused of instigating unrest and violating foreign funding regulations, particularly after his attendance at a Pakistan event raised suspicions. Jamwal indicated that Wangchuk’s actions, including a hunger strike, disrupted ongoing dialogues between the government and local representatives, resulting in violence and casualties. This situation underscores the delicate balance between activism and national security in a region where foreign influence is a pressing concern for India’s stability and governance.
