ICEYE, the Finnish satellite company, has proposed deploying its advanced Gen4 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology in India, a move poised to enhance the country’s defense and disaster management capabilities amid growing regional security challenges. The Gen4 satellites, equipped with high-resolution imaging capabilities of up to 16 cm, are designed for large-area surveillance and can capture up to 500 images daily, crucial for monitoring military activities and natural disasters. This collaboration aligns with India’s push for indigenous space capabilities, as seen in the government’s investment of Rs 10,000 crore in space defense by 2030, while also addressing concerns about surveillance from rival nations. ICEYE’s turnkey solution promises a rapid deployment timeline, fostering public-private partnerships and bolstering India’s strategic space assets.
