Indian Navy's Training Squadron Visits Kenya to Boost Maritime Ties
The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Sarathi, made a significant port call at Mombasa, Kenya, on September 25, 2025, as part of a long-range training deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region. This mission follows previous visits to Seychelles, Mauritius, La Reunion, and Mozambique, underscoring India’s commitment to enhancing maritime collaboration in the region. During their stay, the personnel from both the Indian and Kenyan navies are set to engage in various professional and social activities, including joint training exercises, a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX), and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX), alongside cultural exchanges such as a combined performance by the two navies’ bands and community outreach events. The overarching goal of this mission is to reinforce the maritime partnership between India and Kenya, reflecting the spirit of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. This visit not only highlights India’s proactive approach to regional security and cooperation but also reinforces its strategic presence in the Indian Ocean, which is increasingly pivotal for maintaining stability and fostering collaboration among Indian Ocean Rim nations.
